Today, there are many instances where we’re seeing vintage styles blended together with contemporary features:
Dubai is a prime example of jaw-dropping, technology-fuelled skyscrapers being built in the midst of very traditional
cities; we’re seeing stainless steel kitchens built into converted coach houses, and bifold doors leading to
farmhouse kitchens. ‘Old meets new’ is one of the biggest home design trends to date, and it can be seen in
practically every part of the home, from windows to wall tiles.
Microline tiles are a great example of this. These tiles draw upon the classic shape and feel of metro tiles —
rectangular tiles often found adorning underground subway stations of the 1920s — but incorporate a few small
design changes, to create something completely new that still retains a feeling of familiarity.
